Thorp Precast - Architectural Precast Concrete Cladding - 5 Piccadilly Place, Manchester (The Hub)

Concrete Society Awards 2009 – Certificate of Excellence. Five Piccadilly Place is an entirely precast structure incorporating shear walls, twinwall, precast staircases, solid wall lift shafts and fair faced architectural sandwich cladding panels. Judges’ Comments; The Hub is a landmark building in terms of concrete usage. The ten storey building is believed to be the largest example of its kind in the UK of ‘all precast’ off-site construction, and so differentiates itself from the normal forms of steel frame and in-situ decks or in-situ cores and decks. Both externally and internally, the buildings are impressive. The light architectural units are substantially consistent in colour and etch, with slightly dulled appearence compared with a steel as-struck face. The darker units were more heavily etched, thereby exposing the glistening fine granite aggregate.
